What is Hypnotherapy
If you could imagine the mind as being in two parts, the conscious mind and the subconscious mind. The conscious mind would be the part of you where you analyse information, learn new things, use focused concentration. This part of your mind can hold between 6 and 9 pieces of information at any one time. Which is why sometimes when you try to hold too much information in your conscious mind you can feel slightly muddled or confused.
The subconscious mind however is fantastic at multi-tasking. This is where all your emotions are stored, your memories are retained, your habits even the systems of your body are controlled by the subconscious mind such as your breathing, blood pressure etc.
Sometimes the two different parts of your mind can come into conflict and example of this would be someone trying to lose weight.
The person makes a decision to eat less and move more. (conscious mind)
However in a lot of instances, the person experiences cravings for the foods they are trying to give up, or they feel unmotivated to move their body. (subconscious mind)
This is where hypnosis can be used, as hypnosis accesses the subconscious mind it can allow both parts of your mind to agree to the decision to eat less and move more. When this happens the body automatically craves the healthier foods, feels motivated to move more, thereby allowing you to achieve the thinner slimmer body.
The hypnosis state can best be described as a kind of daydreaming state, where the subconscious mind can be accessed in a safe controlled way to assist people to make any changes that they choose. Whilst in hypnosis the client is completely aware of everything that is going on, and is in complete control at all times.
It is widely accepted by the medical profession that the mind and body are closely related. Some hospitals now use hypnotherapy as a tool to reduce chronic pain. Hypnosis can even be used for anaethesia.
Many people only need 2 or 3 sessions, however there are certain instances where more sessions may be required. However this would be discussed with each individual at the first session.
